Goal

Redesign weekly newsletters templates to display on multiple devices.

Background

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and its subsidiaries ran 12 weekly newsletters ranging from cooking and art to national sports. The designs ranged from full on graphics based to text only. A cohesive brand look was needed based on a template design that the developers could easily incorporate into the cms system, allowing the assigned editor easy update access.

Solution

Three html template styles were created which allowed each vertical to have it’s own visual voice within a template structure. Color choices were based on logo color or website if the vertical had one. Social media links and advertising space were also incorporated into the templates. The html templates were built to degrade gracefully to accommodate differing devices.
